Chateau De La Resle Interior Design in Montigny La Resle, Burgundy

Interior design Historic details & modern simplicity

Subtle colors, works of contemporary art, and elegant furnishings create spaces of modern simplicity...

that embellish original architectural elements from the 17th century. Using standout furnishings by some of their favorite design brands, Johan Bouman and Pieter Franssens focused on creating spaces that would quench their thirst for contemporary art and make the most of the mansion’s original features, such as open fireplaces and delicate plasterwork details.

Architecture Johan Bouman, Pieter Franssens

On a manicured plot in Burgundy sits an ivy-wrapped mansion, topped by a tower, a navy-blue roof, and brickwork chimneys.

Originally built in the 17th century, Château de la Resle sits proudly amid two hectares of carefully landscaped gardens complete with glasshouses, orchards, and an inviting pool. The building retains many of its original architectural features, including sweeping staircases and a fort-like round tower with a conical roof. Throughout, windows with wooden louvers let natural light flood in.

History History, piece by piece

Johan Bouman renovated the château section by section.

The château hadn’t been lived in permanently since WWII. “We did the main building first,” Bouman notes, “then the old caretaker part of the house which extends off the château. Then the pool and spa area, with it’s chef’s kitchen. Really, we developed the hotel concept bit by bit as we went along.”
